Aston Martin Lagonda Limited is a British manufacturer of luxury sports cars, which the brand is associated with luxury grand touring cars in the 1950s and 1960s with fictional character James Bond following his use of a DB5 model in the 1964 film Goldfinger. Thanks to the movie, the car is regarded as a British cultural icon.
However, the company's financial history could be based on The 12 Stages of The Hero’s Journey, including bankruptcy in the 1970s but also enjoyed periods of success and stability, including the David Brown’s ownership from 1947 to 1972 and of the Ford Motor Company from 1994 to 2007. With a consortium of investors led by David Richards, current chairman of Prodrive, purchased 92% of Aston Martin for £479 million, with Ford retaining a £40 million stake.
In 2013, Aston Martin signed a deal with Daimler AG to supply the next generation Aston Martin cars with new Mercedes-AMG engines and electrical systems, and the multinational German automotive corporation now owns 5% of Aston Martin. This technical partnership will support and incorporate new technologies of new generation of Aston Martin models.
